Note: The tour can start in Cusco or the Sacred Valley and can finish either in Cusco or the Sacred Valley upon request.

This full-day tour covers the main attractions in the Sacred Valley. The valley itself is a beautiful stretch of small villages, with ancient ruins spread across a broad plain and rugged mountain slopes, running from southeast to northwest of Cusco. The valley was of great value to the Incas due to its special geographical location and climatic qualities, making it the best place for maize production in Peru. The Spanish even called it the Sacred Valley.

The Urubamba River, or the Sacred River (called the Willcamayu by the Incas), flows through the valley. The Incas believed that the river was the earthly counterpart of the Milky Way. It was also home to many Incan citadels such as Ollantaytambo, Pisaq, and Machu Picchu.

Your guide will meet you at your hotel in Cusco at 7:00 AM to begin the tour. After a one-hour ride, you’ll arrive at the Pisaq archaeological complex, an impressive Inca site featuring the Temple of the Sun, ancient cemetery, terraces, water fountains, and stunning views of the Sacred Valley.

Next, we will head to the Ollantaytambo archaeological complex for a 1.5-hour tour of the Temple of Water, the Sun Temple, the Inca Princess’s Bath, agricultural terraces, and more.

Ollantaytambo is also known as an Inca living town, so we will take a brief walking tour through the streets to experience the architecture of this ancient town.

The Sacred Valley Tour will offer breathtaking views of the snow-capped Urubamba mountain range and local farmlands. The final stop will be the Chinchero archaeological site, where we will spend one hour exploring. We’ll also visit the local weaving industries, where Chinchero women will show you how they use flowers, roots, and seeds to dye alpaca and llama wool and demonstrate the weaving process. You’ll also be offered a cup of Muña tea (local mint) while they explain their work.
