Location: This journey begins in the city of Cusco or in the Sacred Valley, based on your preference. You will fly into Lima, the capital of Peru, then connect to Cusco’s Velasco Astete Airport, a small domestic facility.

Departures: This trek is operated exclusively by Peru Trails. When you book your trek or any tour package, you are traveling directly with us. We do not resell tours and operate year-round with average group sizes of 2 to 5 people, ensuring personalized service.

Day 1 – Cusco – Alcatarwi – Huarmisaya

At 4:00 AM, we will pick you up from your hotel for a 4-hour journey to Alcatarwi at 4,800 m (15,748 ft), a quaint village known for alpaca breeding and surrounded by stunning mountains. Here, we stop for our first camping breakfast prepared by our chef. Our hike begins around 9:00 AM on a gradually ascending trail through a picturesque valley, passing alpaca farms and scattered mountain homes, with a view of Ausangate—the highest mountain in the area at 6,384 m (20,944 ft). The trek from lunch until the Anta rest stop takes approximately 3 hours, where we pause for a delicious meal and a brief rest. Then, we continue to the first pass at Huarmisaya, offering spectacular panoramic views. From here, we descend for about an hour until we reach the campsite. As night falls, we enjoy dinner under an incredible sky.

Day 2 – Huarmisaya – Rainbow Mountain – Cusco

We rise early with a nutritious breakfast to prepare for exploring Rainbow Mountain. Be among the first to reach this natural wonder as you enjoy an approximately 1-hour walk to the summit and its unique views. After spending time admiring the scenery, we begin our descent along a gentle trail toward the Red Valley. The trek takes about 2 hours until we reach Pulawasipata, where our van will transport you back to Cusco. We will also make a stop for lunch at a local restaurant along the way.
